Installed T4M, made a new terrain using the Unity Terrain editor.  Opened the T4M editor, hit the convert button, scaled the texture coordinates and boom!  17 Draw calls even when showing a bunch of buildings, trees and the Duchess herself.    Here is a great blog post on optimizing for mobile.

Vertical Slice (dev Diary)

Back to work on the game finally and a vertical slice is basically complete but test runs on Android were showing very poor performance.  The culprit is Unities terrain system which is very nice but a bit heavy for mobile.  There is an app called T4M that converts Unity terrains into meshes which helps solve this problem, or I could simply model the terrain in a different package and export it as a static mesh.
I also started putting some assets into the game including some dead trees and spooky looking tombs which is making the whole thing look a bit creepier.
More tomorrow hopefully.

Making a mix Tape

Making a "mix tape" used to be easy. All you needed was some kind of stereo that could record to tape and a bunch of music.  In the digital age it's not so simple.  Personally I don't like the pollution to my music collection that compilation albums cause.  I need a mix that I can listen to on a plane or in a rental car where I may not have access to the cloud.
I like to merge all the songs in my mix into a single hour long track that fits on a CD, but can also be put on digital music players.
I use Sony Vegas to edit the tracks together removing any annoying silences as well as cross fading where appropriate.
My XMAS14 mix is rocking!

Faders and dying (Dev Diary)

This evening I fixed up the interpolation code I'm using to animate screen fades and flashes.  Totally boring but worth it.  Then I moved some of the camera code around so that when the player dies the camera doesn't abruptly stop moving but slows down as the screen fades out.
It doesn't look great.  I'd forgotten how much time getting this stuff right takes.  Maybe the camera should turn to face The Duchess?
Whole game is going through the UGLY phase.  Have to keep believing its going to look good when its done.

Yeah I don't think you want to mess with that.  Even at 1/6th SLS surface quality is still very poor.  May try and STL print now I know the parts are the correct size.   This had no clean up performed on it and was just painted with Hobby Acrylics.
