Laser cut perspex ejector seats

4/14/2016

1/6th scale jet fighter interiors for Barb Hella: Future Cop.  The picture is not very good and I didn't spend a huge amount of time on these are they will only be on screen briefly behind a puppet but pretty happy with the results.  I don't have the tools at home to cut thick materials accurately so laser cutting is a great option for me.
I used Inkscape to make the plans and had the printing done by Ponoko over in Oakland.

Nautilus Chronometer

The Nautilus Chrono features an automatic skeleton mechanism and a 28mm high dome crystal with the case 3D printed with an antique bronze finish.  It will sit on an olive green 22mm NATO strap. Inspiration comes from antique diving suits and helmets. The biggest problem now is finding some hands that look good on the mechanism.

Something changed in Fusion360 and it no longer directly exports STL files, but it is possible to export raw multipart STL files from your Autodesk 360 cloud account.

Mini pipboy test shot looks good

The test print for the "mini pipboy" conversion came back from the printer this week and I'm super happy because it looks like I got all of the measurements correct.  Maybe the detail on the front is a little heavy handed, but that is part of the look.  Time to get this printed in metal. But maybe I'll go crazy and put this one on a black f91 just for fun.

The Casio takes a wimpy 18mm strap but I've left a big gap on the pipboy for a 22mm Nato (Olive green) or brown leather strap.

I did the CAD work in Audodesk Fusion 360 and
had the print done by ShapeWays in Black Strong and Flexible which cost about 11 bucks including shipping.

I'm calling this a "mini pipboy" but the inspiration is at least as much from sixties radios and such, I really should get around to playing Fallout4 one of these days.
